Rural research in Malawi is conducted in Thyolo District, where households rely on rain-fed smallholder agriculture and petty trade, which have been deeply disrupted by land distribution policies, AIDS, floods, and droughts (Kendall & Silver, 2014).
Urban Site
In Malawi, the most rapidly urbanizing country on earth, we conduct research in a squatter neighborhood with few public services in Blantyre, the country’s business capital.
